JOB EXPERIENCE

WESTERN GEOPHYSICAL COMPANY - Houston, Tx   (6 years)

Western is an international company with worldwide land crews and marine fleet and
 provides seismic profiles of the earth in potential oil producing areas.

Sr. Programmer / Analyst

• Designed and developed the data collection and attribute generation routines for the SPECS land survey system which displayed graphically, a depiction of the data quality that could be expected from different survey shooting geometries.
• Developed the TOTALFLEX real-time quality control system which monitored seismic attributes of incoming data aboard Western's marine vessels.  Instantaneous resolution of the vessel's course, over eighteen miles of streamer cables behind the boat and calculation of eight different attributes were represented graphically real time using X-windows, UNIX and RISC 6000 workstations.  This yielded greatly improved data accuracy for the customer and eliminated costly re-shoots for the company.
• Revamped and converted an existing mainframe system used for testing the accuracy of seismic recording instruments to a UNIX based workstation environment integrated into the Western Omega Processing System.  This allowed calibration on the job site and saved the department $480,000 per year in mainframe costs.

TELESCAN, INC. - Houston, Tx     (6 years) 
Project Manager / Analyst

Held overall responsibility for the design and development of commercially successful online, interactive stock and mutual fund search programs.  The ProSearch   and Mutual Fund Search software interfaced with Telescan's host communications software and it's database of over 10,000 stocks and mutual funds.  The search programs consisted of the client application which was sold to the user, a server application which processed the user's search request and a background pre-processor run every night to keep the search database current.  

When Telescan's WallStreetCity site folded, ProSearch ran on the Business Week website for a few years under the guidance and ownership of Investools where it currently resides.   

• Completed all projects on time and under budget, generating substantial revenue in less than three years from project initiation.
• Achieved break-even for a 3-year development program within one year of product release.
• Developed products which were not only commercially lucrative, but significantly contributed to a quadrupling of the company's overall revenues in four years.
• Yielded significantly more meaningful searches than competing products through a powerful and unique expert system approach to database retrieval.

EXXON PRODUCTION RESEARCH - Houston, Texas      (7 years)

 Contractor

Responsible for the development and maintenance of seismic processing software for local and worldwide company users.  Was part of the early industry seismic effort to develop 3-D processing techniques and software.

• Supported the conversion and adaptation of 2-D seismic processing software to the much more precise and state-of-the-art three dimensional systems.
• Provided programming support to geophysicists experimenting with new processing techniques.
• Developed software to apply a migration stacking technique to seismic data, eliminating noise and sideswiping events for greater clarity and precision in the analysis of seismic wave data.
• Converted IBM 370 mainframe applications for faster parallel processing methods on the Cray-1S super computer.

University of Texas M.D. ANDERSON CANCER CENTER   - Houston, Texas   (15 years)

Department of Molecular Genetics, Cancer Genetics section (1998 - present)
Programmer / Analyst

The Cancer Genetics section compiles genetic data on certain cancers to ascertain whether a genetic link exists for these cancers.  These databases have been layered across two decades of software platforms and generations and current efforts are underway to reorganize, standardize, clean and link this data into one easily accessible network.  This network of genetic data should provide more complete and powerful ways of examining and sharing the data.

Other responsibilities include creation and maintenance of  the Texas Cancer Genetics Consortium website.  The TCGC  is one of eight regional centers funded by the NCI  contributing data to a national genetics database housed at UCI in California which will allow researchers, more than ever before, to explore the key role gene mutations have in human cancer.  The TCGC consists of four institutions in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio and the purpose was to facilitate communication between those institutions and provide any interested participants with information.
  

Department of Radiotherapy - Houston, Texas     (4 years)
Programmer / Analyst

Held sole responsibility for the development of new computer applications for the clinical section of the Department of Radiotherapy.

• Conceived of, designed and developed the Radiotherapy Patient Information System - a database information retrieval system for use by non-computer oriented departmental personnel.  The program cut retrieval time from days to one hour and was used daily and left unchanged for 11 years after leaving the department.
• Resurrected, redesigned and rewrote a faltering breast cancer treatment technique project, the results of which were published in several medical journals showing that radiation treatment was often a viable alternative to radical surgery.
• Coordinated all phases of application development from initial feasibility evaluations to end-stage database and program maintenance.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE         (7 years)

• Developed applications at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in the Department of Biomathematics in areas of major cancer research, including graphics and statistical packages for other programmers, a staging system for lung cancer and the largest Thyroid cancer project in the United States.
• Managed pre-sales, sales and post-sales technical support for all of California Computer Products' plot software in a seven state region.
• Conducted programmer training classes and education for CALCOMP customers.

Construction / Real Estate

       The purchase, renovation, advertising, leasing, management and sale of three residential rental properties, and the profitable construction of 7,500 sq ft of custom homes in the West University area of Houston have provided valuable experience in managing time, people and money and have reinforced valuable experience in building a goal-oriented, self-disciplined and practical approach to job solutions and project management in general.
